Lone Star Adventures

Warning: Post is REALLY long!!

Brock and I celebrated our five year anniversary on the 30th. Brock had to go to Dallas Texas for a class for work, so rather than spending our anniversary alone I decided to go with him. Brock's uncle Brad used to work for Delta so he got us a pretty cheap buddy pass tickets. Sunday we drove to Salt Lake and Brock flew out. I stayed behind for a few days at my sisters and then Tyler and I flew out Tuesday. We had a pretty fun week. I wish the weather could have been a tad dryer but other than that I really can't complain. It rained a lot while we were there causing some unfortunate events but it was so great to get away and spend some much needed time with my husband. Here are some of the things we did in the lone star state...

Tuesday: The buddy passes we got for Delta are standby only, but we got on the very first flight. Tyler slept the whole way (with the help of a little Tylenol. His doctor told me that kids with shunts usually get bad headaches on airplanes so I didn't want to take any chances of him screaming the whole time...I just gave him a little Tylenol before we left and it worked like a charm). Tyler and I made our way to the hotel and then we had to wait for Brock to get out of class before we could play. We headed to the outlet mall that night. We ate at the Rain forest Cafe and then shopped a little. We found some pretty good deals and really had an enjoyable time. Again Tyler slept pretty much all night. He even slept through all the animals yelling in the restaurant.

Wednesday: Brock headed out for class early so Tyler and I slept in. Granted he was up a lot during the night so I was pretty tired. We snuggled and read a good book, went out for a walk and out to lunch. It started to pour on us when we were out walking so our walk was cut pretty short. We took a nap and browsed the Internet. It was a pretty relaxing and enjoyable day. I never get to just sit and hold my baby for hours so I ate it up. We decided to go to a Rangers baseball game that night. They were going to play the Oakland A's and let me tell you I was so excited. I grew up with the A's and went to games every summer, so it was kinda fun to go to Texas and see my home team. We paid an arm and a leg for parking and for our tickets then went in and sat down. Brock went to get us classic baseball food for dinner and then it started to rain...and rain...and then POUR!!! The starting pitch got moved back a couple of times. We kept waiting and waiting for the rain to stop so we could enjoy a little baseball, but it never did. After a couple hours of waiting the officials finally canceled the game. Sad and disappointed we had to go home with non refundable tickets and no baseball. The night was still fun. We paid a ton of money to get a hot dog at the stadium and sit under the eaves and watch the rain fall. It would have been fun to see some baseball but I am glad that we still got to have some time together.

Thursday: Our Anniversary!! Brock left early again, so Tyler and I got ready for the day slowly and then headed out to the mall again. I had to return something and I didn't really have anything else to do all day. The hotel had a shuttle bus that would take you to the mall so we took advantage of that. Tyler is the best shopping baby. He just slept all day while I walked around the mall and got lunch. For dinner we wanted to go to a really nice restaurant. Wolfgang Puck (a famous Chef) had a restaurant in Dallas we wanted to go to, so we got dressed up in the nicest we had (which really wasn't too nice because we weren't planning on going anywhere that required dress ups) and went. The restaurant is called the "Reunion Tower" and it is 18 stories off the ground. It was an awesome restaurant. We felt a little funny in at first because we were a little under dressed AND we had Tyler with us. I think he was the only baby in the restaurant but they didn't seem to mind. The restaurant was like a look out tower that spun slowly around. The dishes are tiny and very expensive, but we figured since FMC would pay for Brock's half we would be OK. We just got an appetizer, entree and dessert to share. For the most part they were really good, and so fancy. I don't think we will be in a restaurant like that again for a really long time. After dinner we went and walked the streets. President Kennedy was shot on the streets of Dallas so they have a neat open tomb there you can go look at. They also have a museum where you can go into the room the man shot the president from, but by the time we got there it was closed. They also have the world's largest bronze sculpture that depicts a cattle drive of 3 cowboys and 50 steers. That was kind of neat to see too. We went back to the hotel and sat in the hot tub. It was such a fun night and so nice and warm and just a little too humid.

Friday: There are only four flights from Dallas to Salt Lake and Tyler and I could not get on the the first two. I was getting a little nervous, but we made it on the third. Again Tyler slept for most of the way home. We had a great week away and want to thank Melanie and Kris for watching Kayden for us while we were away.

Happy Anniversary! What a cute Oakland A's onesie. Didn't know you were a baseball fan. Glad you had fun. How cool of a restaurant, but were you starving after Wolfgang Pucks with the tiny plates and all?
