So here is a little update of how things went in Salt Lake. Kayden and Tyler both did awesome in the hospital thanks to lots of treats and toys. By the second day though we were ready to come home. Tyler's first appointment went good...he saw a cranial facial specialist. Tyler had a ridge on the back of his head that formed that I was concerned about so that's why we went to him. We were scheduled for a CT scan the next day so the doctor just requested additional pictures from that. The next day (Thursday) we had the CT done. Tyler was screaming on the CT bed and Kayden and I were watching from behind a window. Kayden kept saying, "Tyler doesn't like the bed" over and over again as if to tell the nurse to get him off of that bed because he didn't like what they were doing to him. It was adorable and just another moment where I got to see just how much Kayden loves his brother. We then went to his Neurosurgeon appointment where we found out that Tyler needed another shunt right away, plus his bones had fused together in the back of his head and that is why there is a ridge back there. (which will require surgery another day...the doctors are still not sure exactly how to go about that so we will return in a month). First things first we had to get Tyler into surgery within 24 hours. As I was sitting in the dr. office holding Tyler, Kayden running a much and sick of being in there and the dr. trying to talk to me about what needed to be done, I was bawling. I quickly called Brock and told him he needed to take off the next day and I was coming home right then to get him, pack another bag and get Tyler back to the hospital. We got home Thursday night. I got to go to Enrichment which was so nice. We have so many wonderful loving and supportive friends in our ward. It was just the thing I need that night to sit and laugh with my friends and not think about anything else. We got up bright and early (3:30 am) to get to the hospital by 7am (we live 2 1/2 hours away without snow). Of course we ran into snow on the way and it delayed us about an hour. Luckily the dr's still agreed to do the surgery. I dropped Tyler and Brock off at the hospital so they could check in and I left to take Kayden to my sisters house. I got back just in time for them to prep Tyler for surgery. His surgery had been delayed because we were late so we got to sit with him in the waiting area with all the other cute kids in their gowns waiting to be taken back. (Tyler had on a cute little gown too). We handed him over to the anesthesiologist and walked the other way to the waiting room, where I lost it again. Theres just one thing about handing your kid over all nice and snuggli in his grandma made blanket knowing where he is heading and all I get to do is walk the opposite direction and wait. We are getting to know that waiting room really well unfortunately. The surgery went well..it only takes about an hour. Tyler had to stay one night in the hospital..or so they told us. Saturday morning he had to have a shunt series (CT scans to see if the new shunt was working). They found out the fluid in his head was not drained as much as the doctors wanted so they told us.."one more day" we would have to be in the hospital. Sunday came around and Tyler was having more seizures (they did just mess with his brain a little, so this was expected I guess). So again we heard "one more day" to see if they could control the seizures. Monday rolled around and he had more CT scans. They looked good, but we still couldn't go home. Finally on Tuesday morning his Phenobarb level was good, seizures were under control again, and the fluid in his head was draining good, so they let us take our baby home. It really didn't bother Brock or I to hear one more day so many times because we figured one more day was nothing compared to his 2 1/2 month stay in the NICU. He is home now and is doing wonderful. He has a big bump on his head with lots of stitches, but I think he is feeling a lot better because the pressure has gone down in his head. Now we just sit and wait for the next surgery (major skull reconstruction) but not without lots of kisses, smiles, and "I love You's".
p.s. The picture is of Tyler in his little hospital crib. He would sleep so peacefully.

My oh my!! I am so sorry all that happened, but so glad that you were able to get everything done!! He is such a sweet little spirit and it is so cute that Kayden is so protective of him!
I'm glad it all ended good. I've been thinking about you guys. Tyler sure does have a good set of cheeks on him doesn't he! :-)
I am glad to hear Tyler is doing better!! How are you doing? I have been thinking of you all week. I know it is so hard to say goodbye to your baby when the doctors are taking them away to have surgery. You know they are in need of the surgery but it doesn't make it any easier to see them go. I love you guys and know you will be strong for Tyler.
So greatful to read the full story. I always want to ask for the full story with all the details, but inevitably one of us ends up crying or tearing or sitting in thoughtful silence. I just think blogs are a great way to share:)
